Crete

Creta is the largest island of Grecia, at the gateway between Europa and the Mediterana. It is defined by contrast: exotic lagoons like Balos and Elafonissi, deep gorges like Samaria, old towns with Venetian harbors in Chania and Rethymno, and Minoan palaces that tell the legend of Minos and the Labyrinth. The climate is mild from spring until late autumn, the gastronomy is a chapter of its own, and Cretan hospitality makes you feel right at home.

Creta lives through its dining rituals, lyra music, and stories shared over a glass of raki. A modest dress code is required in churches and monasteries, and the local greeting 'Yassas' easily opens any conversation.

Documents and visas

For Romanian citizens, a valid identity card is sufficient. No special vaccines are required. Travel medical insurance is recommended.

Money and payments

The currency is the Euro. Cards are accepted in cities and resorts, but keep cash for villages and markets. The usual tip is 5–10 percent for good service.

Transport on the island

Car rental offers maximum freedom. The KTEL bus network connects large cities and many beaches. Taxis are available in tourist areas. For some isolated spots on the southern coast, local boats are used.
