Pilgrimage to the Three Holy Martyrs of the Communist Prisons
The Holy Confessors of the Communist Prisons are Orthodox Christians who suffered persecution and torture in the prisons of the communist regime in Romania for their faith. They are considered models of courage, sacrifice, and witness to Christ in the face of an oppressive atheist regime.
This pilgrimage invites you to discover the life and legacy of three of the sixteen saints canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church in 2024: Saint Priest-Confessor Dumitru Stăniloae, Saint Venerable Confessor Sofian of Antim, and Saint Venerable Confessor Arsenie of Prislop.
Day 1: Departure from Constitution Square parking, 07:30 – Bucharest – Căldărușani Monastery (veneration of the wonderworking icon of the Mother of God, the relics of Saint Hierarch Gregory the Teacher, Metropolitan of Wallachia, and the tomb of Saint Venerable Confessor Sofian of Antim) – Saint Nicholas Church at Drăgănescu, painted by Saint Venerable Confessor Arsenie of Prislop – Cernica Monastery (veneration of the relics of Saint Calinic of Cernica, the first saint canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church, and the tomb of Saint Priest-Confessor Dumitru Stăniloae, world-renowned Orthodox theologian, known for translating and commenting on the Philokalia).
